We are pleased to announce that Mr. Vince Lee will conduct the Toledo Symphony in our Annual Neighborhood Christmas Concert! Our holiday concert will be held at Saint Joseph Church on Wednesday, December 4, 2019. With over 200 premieres to his credit, Mr. Lee has become one of the most sought-after conductors of modern compositions. Lauded in reviews for his “striking attention to detail,” and “energetic, breathtaking performance,” he has established a reputation among composers for bringing particularly challenging and complex music to life. Mr. Lee is also an enthusiastic believer in paying his experiences forward to the next generation of musicians, and has conducted at numerous schools, universities, and workshops across the US. Then will I go to the Altar of God, the God of my gladness and joy. The parish is inviting people to join the Altar Server Ministry. This ministry is now open to any person in the fifth grade through adulthood. The ministry is no longer restricted to schoolaged children. Perhaps parents would like to serve at the altar with their children. Applications for service are available in the brochure racks of the Church, on the parish and school websites or directly from our school and religious education teachers. Once applications are received, training sessions will be scheduled. Please respond at your earliest convenience.

Flu Shots East Campus Pastors Suite Sunday, October 13, 2019 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. The vaccine is a quadrivalent vaccine which covers four strains of flu. Hi-Dose vaccine may or may not be available for those 65 and older (due to manufacturer’s delay in getting the Hi-Dose vaccine). Will bill all insurance. If not covered, client will receive a bill. Flu Shot Clinic is provided by the Toledo Lucas County Health Department. Pneumonia vaccines are given at the Health Department. For an appointment, call 419-213-4163. Part-Time Custodian (20 Hours a week) The Custodian is responsible for the custodial and set-up needs for Saint Joseph Church and School. This includes cleaning and light maintenance of our parish and school buildings. Additionally, the Custodian will assist in preparing the facilities for events as well as general cleanup. The custodian must have the physical ability to perform all aspects of this job and should be observant, respectful, motivated and committed to providing staff, students and visitors clean and orderly places to gather. Candidates must have relevant experience, have at least a high school diploma or general equivalency degree and must successfully pass the BCI/FBI fingerprinting background checks prior to employment. Breakthrough is a Saint Joseph Parish Youth Ministry Program that focuses on exploring and understanding one’s faith in a modern way; that way is none other than MOVIES! The group has fun together. We will watch “Heaven Is for Real” (PG) for the Fall session and share a meal! *Note: to make the most out of the film and the discussions, we ask that you come each week for the fall session to take away as much as possible from the film and discussions. Saint Vincent dePaul FOOD COLLECTION Food collection for the poor…Bags will be handed out the weekend of October 5 & 6 after all Masses for the annual Saint Vincent de Paul food collection. Please return the bag filled with non-perishable food items to the food collection truck that will be in the church parking lot before and after all Masses (except 5:00 p.m. Mass) the weekend of October 12 and 13. At 5:00 p.m. Mass only please leave in Hospitality Area, as the truck needs to be returned before that Mass. Please note: Our monthly collection for Saint Vincent de Paul which is normally taken the first weekend of every month will move to the October 12, 13th dates this month only. Lecture Examines the Decline of Christianity in the Holy Land Presented by the Sylvania Franciscan Village in partnership with Saint Joseph Parish Sylvania,and Knights of Columbus Immaculate Conception Council 5628 Guest lecturer Sir Jeffrey Abood, Commander in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, will present “The Decline of Christianity in the Holy Land” Monday, October 14, at 7:00 p.m. at the Franciscan Center, 6832 Convent Boulevard, Sylvania. Over the last 70 years, Christians have gone from 18% of the population of the Holy Land historically to less than 2% today. Sir Jeffrey will speak on the Catholic Church’s perspective, share his firsthand experience, and provide an overview of Christians in the Holy Land, including who they are, why they are leaving and how the broader Church body can help. This event is free and open to the public.

On Saturday, October 26, 2019 at the 4:30 p.m. Mass, Saint Joseph Parish will celebrate the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. The Sacrament of Anointing is the proper sacrament for those people whose health is impaired by chronic physical or mental illness, age or a weakened condition. It is also for those people who are about to undergo tests or surgery. The reception of the sacrament is not only a privilege but also a sign of support and concern shown by the Christian community for its members who are ill. Pews and chairs will be reserved for those people who will be receiving the sacrament. When you arrive at church, please come to the front pews. If you are not able to come to church on your own, ask a family member, neighbor or friend to bring you. If you are unable to attend and would like to receive the sacrament at home, please call the Parish Office at 419-885-5791.

We have all been there, so you, a family member, friend or caregiver are not alone, or perhaps you have another need for prayer. Come and check out Deb’s Ministry of Prayer and Hope. Are you passionate about having a parish funeral luncheon committee in our parish? Do you feel called to help those grieving to celebrate their loved ones life? If so, we invite you to join us! We are looking for a co-chair for our Parish Funeral Luncheon Committee. We have teams of volunteers to coordinate dessert dishes, set-up, and clean-up. Saint Joseph Bridge – Ladies and Gentlemen: Our bridge ministry is quite active. We have 28 people who attend regularly to enjoy an afternoon of bridge, fellowship and refreshments. On World Mission Sunday, October 20, 2019, Bishop Daniel E. Thomas will celebrate the 10:00 am Liturgy at Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral. This is a great opportunity to participate in the Extraordinary Missionary Month that Pope Francis has asked the Church to observe throughout October. All are invited!

We are beginning our Children’s Liturgy of the Word during the 10:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday, September 29th. Have your children ages 5-8 ready to go and enjoy listening to the Gospel on their level! They will be called up by Father and led to the Holy Family Chapel during 10:00 a.m. Mass.

“Little Carpenters” – Saint Joseph Parish Play Group: Mark your calendars for our Fall Session! This group is for kids 0-5 years old accompanied by a parent, guardian, grandparent or caregiver. All parishioners and friends of Saint Joseph Parish are welcome! Fun activities, crafts and games. Topics include apples, alphabet, shapes and colors, patterns, and Halloween.
