Dear Fellow Parish Bulletin Reps: October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary. The Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary is celebrated on October 7. The Holy Father’s Intentions for the Month of October, 2019: A Missionary “Spring” in the Church: That the breath of the Holy Spirit engender a new missionary “spring” in the Church. The feasts during the month of October: Therese of the Child Jesus (10/1), Guardian Angels (10/2), Francis of Assisi (10/4), Bl. Francis Xavier Seelos, Faustina Kowalska (10/5), Our Lady of the Rosary (10/7), St. John XXIII (10/11), Teresa of Jesus (10/15), Hedwig, Margaret Mary Alacoque (10/16), Ignatius of Antioch (10/17), Luke (10/18), Isaac Jogues, John de Brebeuf and Companions (10/19), John Paul II (10/22), John of Capistrano (10/23), Anthony Claret (10/24), Simon and Jude (10/28). “Our Lady has never refused me a grace through the recitation of the Rosary.” ~ St. Padre Pio.
Every person has a Guardian Angel assigned to them, and October 2 the Church celebrates the role of these Guardian Angels. We should show devout gratitude to God for placing these Angels at our service. Having a Guardian Angel should give us confidence during all of life’s difficulties. Every Catholic should know the Angele Dei (Angel of God) prayer and pray it often. Pray it at morning and evening prayers or after the Angelus. Also, October 16 is known as “Pope Day” on which we celebrate the gift of the papacy and our current pope (Francis). In this October calendar of Vatican events, Pope Francis’s “Extraordinary Missionary Month” may be overshadowed by the Synod of Bishops for the Amazon and its related events. The Pope convoked the special assembly on the theme “Amazonia: New Paths for the Church and for an Integral Ecology”. Many themes, not limited to ecology, form the center-of-attention for the 7 Bishops’ Conferences and 9 involved nations. “If you want to reach these hardened souls and win them over to God, preach my Rosary.” ~ Our Lady to St. Dominic.
John
Bishop Daniel Thomas in welcoming Cardinal Timothy Dolan for the feast
of Our Lady of the Rosary, the patroness of our diocese, on Monday,

Rosary (led by Cardinal Dolan, Bishop Thomas, and a guest family) at
6:30 PM, Mass (Cardinal Dolan, celebrant & homilist) @ 7 PM, and a
light reception to follow. “The Rosary is a prayer that always
accompanies me. It is also the prayer of the ordinary people and the
saints. It is a prayer from my heart.” ~ Pope Francis.
