Bereavement Group: When we lose a loved one by death, we are wounded. Just as a wound does, we need to heal from within, to express our thoughts and feelings, even when they seem crazy. We need to recognize that “crazy is normal.” Christ the King Bereavement Group : meets the second Tuesday of each month from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Christ the King Parish Center Meeting Room. Evening Prayer during Lent Vespers (Evening Prayer) will take place in Church on: Tuesday evenings – March 12, 19, 26; April 2, 9, 16 from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m. Lent is our season of prayer, fasting and almsgiving, ancient practices dating back to the Israelites. Vespers is one of the prayers of The Liturgy of the Hours – the public prayer of the Church for praising God and sanctifying the day. All Catholics are called to this prayer – please join us as we give thanks for the blessings of the day!

Compassionate and Caring People Needed We are in need of multiple people to bring Communion to Catholics in the Sylvania Community. We have nine nursing homes/extended care facilities and Flower Hospital that have Catholic patients who wish to receive Communion on a weekly basis. We would like Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion to serve on one of these days, once a month at: Flower Hospital – substitute for Sunday, Wednesday or Friday mornings Franciscan Care Center – substitute for Sundays Also needed are people to bring Communion to homebound parishioners on a weekly basis. This service offers a wonderful way of ministering to the sick, which is both a Corporal and Spiritual Work of Mercy in our Catholic Tradition. Currently, over 80 parishioners serve as Eucharistic Ministers to the residents in these medical care facilities. No prior experience is necessary and training will be provided.
Wednesday, April 10, 2019 – The Light is On As has been our Lenten custom, the confessional lights will be on in parishes across the Diocese of Toledo, Wednesday, April 10, 2019 for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, including our parish, Saint Joseph, Sylvania, Between the hours of 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. on April 10th, priests in local parishes will be present to hear Confessions, making the mercy and forgiveness of the Lord readily available to all.

“From Death (Row) into Life” Presented by the Saint Joseph Parish Knights of Columbus Council 5628 and the Franciscan Village Friday, April 12, at 7:00 p.m. in Saint Joseph Church The evening begins with Stations of the Cross followed immediately by Father Neil Kookoothe and Joe D’Ambrosio. Father Kookoothe is a native Toledoan and a Catholic priest, lawyer, nurse and advocate for the social justice issues of wrongful conviction. With help from Father Kookoothe, Mr. D’Ambrosio was exonerated from Ohio’s death row in 2012 after spending 22 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. The two men will share their real life experiences with the flaws of the criminal justice system. The talk will begin at approximately 7:30 p.m. and there will be time for questions and answers.

40 Days for Life Campaign Began March 6: Catholic Charities is hosting the ecumenical 40 Days for Life campaign in Northwest Ohio from March 6-April 14. You can participate in three ways: prayer and fasting, community outreach and peaceful vigil. Joseph’s Meals Next Saturday and Sunday March 16, 17 is sign-up weekend for anyone interested in helping with our monthly parish food donation to the Helping Hands of Saint Louis Soup Kitchen. Tables will be in the back and front of church with lists of various items that are needed. Please sign up to make a pasta dish or to provide other foods or supplies.
