What is The Alpha Marriage Course? The Alpha Marriage Course was developed in 1996 by Nicky and Sila Lee for couples looking for practical support to strengthen their relationship. The Marriage Course is for couples who are seeking to strengthen their relationship. It offers a lifetime of practical ideas and tools to help keep your relationship strong, and is based on Christian principles but designed for all couples with or without a church background. This program is being offered at Saint Joseph Parish, as of October 12th. The 7 sessions are held on Friday evenings from 6:30-9:00 p.m. at our East Campus Meeting Rooms. Registration is required by contacting the Parish Center at 419-885-5076 or jdenyer@stjoesylvania.org. We will still accept registration until October 16. We hope you will consider this new course as a way of enriching your marriage!

JOSEPH MEALS This Saturday and Sunday, October 13-14, is sign-up weekend for anyone interested in helping with our monthly parish food donation to the Helping Hands of Saint Louis Soup Kitchen. Tables will be in the back and front of the church with lists of various items that are needed. Please sign up to make a pasta dish or to provide other foods or supplies. The drop-off point for these items will be on the East Campus off Ravine Road on Wednesday, October 17th between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m. If you would like to help but can’t make this time frame, please contact Larry or Deb Gaster at 419-466- 4885 or 419-460-7386. Lunch N’ Learn Program for All Parishioners and Guests The program begins with lunch at 11:30 a.m. with the speaker to follow. The program will be held in the East Campus Meeting Rooms. Coat and Blanket Collection Please save your gently used blankets and child-sized coats for the collection drive by the Knights of Columbus and the Saint Vincent de Paul Society. We will be available to receive these items before and after every Mass the weekend of October 27th and 28th. Our collection truck will be in the church parking lot between the church and school. As you buy new coats for your school-aged children, please consider donating your used coats to this very worthy cause. We look forward to seeing you and thank you for your support in advance!

On Saturday, November 10, 2018, at the 4:30 p.m. Mass, Saint Joseph Parish will celebrate the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. The Sacrament of Anointing is the proper sacrament for those people whose health is impaired by chronic illness, age or a weakened condition. It is also for those people who are about to undergo tests or surgery. The reception of the sacrament is not only a privilege but also a sign of support and concern shown by the Christian community for its members who are ill. Pews and chairs will be reserved for those people who will be receiving the sacrament. When you arrive at the church, please come to the front pews. If you are not able to come to church on your own, ask a family member, neighbor or friend to bring you. If you are unable to attend and would like to receive the sacrament at home, please call Laurie at the Parish Office, 419-885-5791.

World Mission Sunday, October 20/21, 2018 Next weekend, we will celebrate World Mission Sunday. Each year, the entire Church is invited to support the mission dioceses in Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands, and parts of Latin America and Europe, where priests, religious and lay leaders serve the world’s most vulnerable communities. Flu Shots East Campus Meeting Rooms Sunday, October 14, 2018, 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Flu Shot $30 The vaccine is a quadrivalent vaccine which covers four strains of flu and Hi-Dose, covered by Medicare, will be available for those 65 and older. Will bill all insurance. If not covered, the client will receive a bill. Flu Shot Clinic is provided by the Toledo Lucas County Health Department. Catholic Charities is hosting the ecumenical 40 Days for Life campaign in Northwest Ohio from Wednesday, September 26 – Sunday, November 4. You can participate in three ways: prayer and fasting, community outreach and peaceful vigil. Comfort Blanket Ministry The Comfort Blanket Ministry involves making blankets (43”x 43”) by sewing twenty-five 9” decorated squares of fabric. Some of the squares have messages of hope and encouragement. The blankets are given to people who are having a difficult time in their lives due to illness, death, divorce, job loss, etc. The group meets once a month on the third Wednesday. Harvest Dinner The Great Harvest Dinner, which occurs in late fall, provides an evening of food, fellowship, and inspiration for women of the parish and their friends. Knights of Columbus The Knights of Columbus is a family oriented, Catholic fraternal service organization that has as its main principles charity, unity, and fraternity. Its main focus is supporting the pastor in his goals and protecting the widows and children of members through our fraternal benefit programs.
