Christ Camp at Zion Lutheran

ChristCampZionZion Lutheran Church, 8307 Memorial Hwy., Ottawa Lake, Michigan, is proud to announce their first “Christ Camp” this summer.  The summer activities are being supported by the Women of Zion and various means from the congregation and the community.  Christ Camp has been blessed to have the son of Mr. Hockey – Gordie Howe, Dr. Murray Howe, to be the mentoring member of the Camp.   His recent book, Nine Lessons I Learned from My Father, will be highlighted at the Camp all summer long as well as Biblical mentors and Scripture reflections.

“The best means of nurturing children and youth has them being involved in activities and then slip in life and spiritual lessons for them to reflect on as they go about having fun,” states Pastor Terry Rebert of Zion Lutheran.    “The community is really coming together to offer their resources to make this a blessed time to nurture our up and growing next generation of leaders.   Just recently Whiteford Valley Golf Club has offered to lend a hand teaching kids FootGolf.   I never heard of this sporting activity but it sounds pretty cool.   The Bauman Camp Ground in Samaria, the Whiteford School, and our church grounds will be part of the event locations.”

Some of the activities as Christ Camp will include boys and girl basketball and softball at a local facility.   The ages grouping will be from 6-10, 11-13, and 14-18.   Boys and girl softball will also be available.   Mr. Rice, the legendary basketball coach of Whiteford High School, will be the honoree at the first 3 men and girl outdoor basketball tournament at the Bauman Campground in July.   A Beach volleyball tournament also will take place at the Bauman Camp.   A unique aspect of Christ Camp will be a food and flower community garden.  Kids will learn the power of a seed to grow flowers and vegetables.   Sunday evening will offer a community game night with activities such as kickball, arts and craft and a puppet ministry.  Some field trips are also being planned.

Mentoring and guiding the various activities are three outstanding youth from the community.  The Christ Camp staff includes Nate Bauman, Baylee Baldwin, and Katlyn Taylor.  Angel Webb will serve as the Administrative Assistant.   Kids from the surrounding communities of Ottawa Lake and Sylvania are invited to attend.
