Evening Prayer during Lent Vespers (Evening Prayer) will take place in Church on Thursday evenings, March 15 and 22, from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m. Lent is our season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, ancient practices dating back to the Israelites. Vespers is one of the prayers of The Liturgy of the Hours – the public prayer of the Church for praising God and sanctifying the day. All Catholics are called to this prayer – please join us as we give thanks for the blessings of the day
A Biblical Walk through the Mass Do you understand the meaning behind the parts of the Mass? In his video-based study, A Biblical Walk through the Mass, Dr. Edward Sri explores the roots of the words and gestures we experience at Mass and explains their profound significance. In this study, you will come to know and understand the Mass as never before, leading you to a richer, more fruitful worship experience. Join us for A Biblical Walk through the Mass on Tuesday evenings, from 7:00-8:30 or Wednesday mornings, from 9:30 to 11:00, beginning April 10/11, and continuing weekly for five weeks. Today and Beyond An Ecumenical Bereavement Support Group – When we lose a loved one by death, we are wounded. Just as a wound does, we need to heal from within, to express our thoughts and feelings, even when they seem crazy. We need to recognize that “crazy is normal.” The group meets the second Tuesday of each month from 6:30-8:00 p.m., at Christ the King Church, the Parish Center Meeting Room. The Light is On Wednesday, March 21, 2018 – Mark your calendars for Wednesday, March 21, 2018, when the confessional lights will be on in parishes across the Diocese of Toledo for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Between the hours of 4:00-7:00 p.m. on March 21st, priests in local parishes will be available to hear Confessions. Begun in the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C., as a means to encourage the Catholic faithful to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation, The Light is On is a collective diocesan-wide effort when confessions are scheduled at the same time at local parishes on a selected day. Priests in local parishes will avail themselves to hear confessions on this date. Scheduled time and locations may be altered slightly, due to local circumstances. Consult the parish bulletin. knights of Columbus Immaculate Conception Council – 5628 St. Joseph Sylvania, OH. Reformer or Revolutionary? On Friday, March 23, Knights of Columbus Immaculate Conception Council 5628 will offer a lecture entitled Martin Luther: Reformer or Revolutionary. Come and learn about the origins of the Protestant Reformation, presented by Lourdes University professor, Dr. Geoffrey Grubb. The lecture will begin immediately after Stations of the Cross or about 7:30 p.m., in St. Joseph’s Church. There is no charge for the event, but attendees are asked to bring one canned good for the Knights of Columbus 40 Cans for Lent Food Drive.
The Respect Life Committee of St. Joseph’s Parish is holding their 4th annual Day of Reflection. “Where Life and Scripture Meet.” The Topic this year is Scripture and Life Lessons (Care of the Elderly; Capital Punishment; Pornography; Abortion; Drug Abuse). The event will be held Saturday, March 17th, from 8:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Please join us for this day of reflection during this Lenten Season and bring a friend. The focus will be reflections on scripture and opportunities for study and dialogue. Sisters Shannon Schrein of the Sisters of St. Francis will be the keynote speaker. Sister is on the Leadership team of the Sisters of St. Francis (Sylvania). She served as a professor of religious studies for six years and then, in 1998, as the chair and professor of Theological Studies. Please mark your calendars for March 17th. JOSEPH’S MEALS: Saturday and Sunday, March 17th and 18th will be the sign-up weekend for anyone interested in helping with our monthly, parish food donation to the Helping Hands of St. Louis Soup Kitchen. Tables will be in the back and front of the church with lists of various items that are needed. Please sign up to make a pasta dish or to provide other foods or supplies.
