When people talk about The Salvation Army the first thing that comes to mind is the Red Kettles at Christmas but they are more than that. The Salvation Army is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human need in His name without discrimination. This is what drives the social service aspect of the organization as well as its Sunday services and other spiritual activities offered during the week. All are welcome to attend Sunday services that start at 9:45 am at The Salvation Army, located downtown at 620 N. Erie street.
When asked what people should know about The Salvation Army Sunday services Captain Angie Smith, Associate Corps Officer, said, “Anyone is welcome at services, you can come as you are knowing that you will be welcomed and loved no matter what.” Captain Mike Smith, Associate Corp Officer, agreed and added: “We want people to leave worship with a relationship with God, full of love and hope.”
Transportation is provided for both adults and children, there is a hot meal served for children under 18 years old before services begin. Sunday school is at 9:45 am followed by a family worship service at 10:45 am. There is also a staffed nursery available for younger children. About The Salvation Army
The Salvation Army, an evangelical part of the universal Christian church established in London in 1865, has been supporting those in need in His name without discrimination for 130 years in the United States. Nearly 30 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year through the broadest array of social services that range from providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children. 82 cents of every dollar The Salvation Army spends is used to support those services in 5,000 communities nationwide.
