In 1620 the Plymouth Company sent the “Pilgrims” who built a new nation. 400 years later a new “company” of Godly leaders is emerging to transform politics, business, education, medicine, media, church and family.
America today is facing five main problem areas that the church must address more effectively: sins/demons, ignorance/error, corruption/poverty, injustice/tyranny, and disease/division. Progress in addressing each of these are true “signs” of success in Jesus’ command to disciple nations (Mt 28; Mk 16).
Christians must respond to these problems better than it is doing recently. Did you know that increase in churches, prayer and revival alone has never fully transformed any nation since the beginning of Christianity? History shows that lasting change occurs when a deliberate strategy is also implemented to raise up Christian leaders for the most influential institutions or “mountains” of culture. 400 years ago a small group of people set out to change the world with this strategy. They saw the Old World of Europe falling away after earlier saints had transformed it more than any other place in the world. But sensing a new opportunity to rebuild a Christian civilization in America, they formed what was called the Virginia Company and later the Plymouth Company. They gave birth to the first English colonies in what would eventually be known as the United States.
These companies held fundamental principles that were rooted in the Bible in regards to seven important spheres of culture: Church, Family, Business, Government, Education, Medicine, and Media/Arts. By training leaders and all citizens in Biblical principles for each area they gradually laid the foundations of a godly civilization such as the world had never seen. Their strategy eventually had a great impact on many other nations around the world.
But today the seeds they planted in America have largely died out. The modern American church is losing the culture and will never turn America around if it stays on its present course. But the good news is that people are starting to return to the historic comprehensive strategy of the Great Commission of Christ to go and “make disciples of nations.”
