TOLEDO, Ohio, Nov. 5, 2013 – This holiday season, as we get into the hustle and bustle of present shopping and gift wrapping, it’s important to remember pets and owners who are less fortunate than some, many of whom depend on Humane Ohio’s low-cost spay/neuter clinic and pet food bank for help.  The non-profit organization helps animals and pet parents during the holiday season and year round and there’s a variety of ways for people to support their efforts and make a difference in the community.

Humane Ohio’s “Pet Photos with Santa” fundraiser will take place at Lambertville Hardware (8100 Secor Rd., Lambertville MI 48144, three miles north of the state line) on November 23rd from 10 am – 2 pm.  Optional Michigan and Ohio State props will be available so your child or pet can show support for their favorite team (with or without Santa).

A “Stuff the Dave White Chevrolet Trucks” pet food drive will also be held at Lambertville Hardware in conjunction with Santa Photos on November 23rd.  OSU fans will put their pet food donations in the red Dave White Chevrolet truck, U of M fans in the blue truck to see which team’s fans are more generous.  (People can also collect pet food donations from friends, family and co-workers ahead of time to make an even bigger impact.)  The ultimate goal is to stuff both trucks and stock the shelves of the Humane Ohio Pet Food Bank.  K100 and My 98.3 will be donating their time to broadcast live for part of the event.

The Humane Ohio Pet Food Bank makes pet food available to pet parents and to people caring for outdoor community cats (in Lucas, Wood and Monroe counties).  This program – which is on track to distribute at least 80,000 pounds of pet food this year – helps make sure that pets and free-roaming cats do not go hungry, it helps pet parents keep their pets when they hit unexpected financial challenges, and it helps ensure that people do not have to share their own meal with their pets and go hungry themselves.

Santa will return from the North Pole for more pictures at Lambertville Hardware on Saturday, December 7th from 10 am – 2 pm.  Children and families photos are welcome too (with or without a pet, with or without Santa).  Photos will be taken on a first come, first serve basis.  No appointments.

Tigress Studios is donating their time to take the photos and Kohne Camera & Photo is donating the printing, allowing 100% of the proceeds to benefit Humane Ohio!  Humane Ohio can offer low-cost spay/neuter prices because donations, grants and fundraisers like “Pet Photos with Santa” help cover the cost.

There are different photo packages to choose from on both dates:

$10 – two 5”x7”s and eight wallets

$20 – two 5”x7”s, 16 wallets and an 8”x10”

$25 – 24 cards and envelopes

Humane Ohio operates a non-profit, low-cost spay/neuter clinic and pet food bank that fixed 11,700 animals in 2012 and gave out more than 67,000 pounds of pet food.  Their spay/neuter clinic serves Ohio and Michigan and can offer low-cost spay/neuter prices because donations and grants help cover the costs.  Humane Ohio believes that all animals should receive the highest quality veterinary care possible even if the services rendered are at a reduced cost.  All spay/neuter surgeries are performed by licensed veterinarians (DVMs) and every patient receives pain medication.
