Ohio Hog Farmers, Partners Donate Pork to Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank
Ohio hog farmers have been actively involved in the fight against hunger for years, donating more than 750,000 meals of nutritious pork to Ohio food banks since 2009. This month the Ohio Pork Producers Council (OPPC) is once again doing its part to make sure that no table is without a nutritious, locally-produced meal. On March 12, the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank will receive 5,000 pounds of ground pork at its distribution warehouse.
“The Ohio Pork Producers Council and its partners have made it possible for us to provide Ohio-raised, Ohio-produced protein-packed pork to people in need. We are grateful for the support of Ohio’s outstanding agricultural industry—the people who work hard to feed all of us, every day,” said James M. Caldwell, President & CEO of the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank.
OPPC has joined with the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank and several other Ohio food banks to help feed hungry families, along with generous supporters like the Ohio Corn Marketing Program, Farm Credit Services of Mid-America and many Ohio hog farmers and businesses. The pork will be distributed to member food pantries and soup kitchens, which will in turn provide it to people in need in local communities.
Thanks to the donations from Farm Credit Services of Mid-America, the Ohio Corn Marketing Program, and many other farmers and businesses, OPPC provided more than 35,000 pounds of ground pork to food banks in Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton and Toledo.
About the Ohio Pork Producers Council (OPPC)
OPPC was established in 1968, beginning with nearly 800 pork producers dedicated to the task of promoting their own product. Currently, the Council has approximately 2,500 members. OPPC’s mission is to serve and benefit members, regardless of size, in the areas of member service, legislative and environmental issues, consumer and producer education and market development.
