Dear Fellow Parish Bulletin Reps: October is the Month of the Most Holy Rosary. Join us in celebrating many special feast days in October: St. Therese of Lisieux (10/1), St. Francis of Assisi (10/4), St. Faustina Kowalska (10/5), Our Lady of Fatima (10/13). On April 24, 1959 the Pilgrim Statue of Our Lady of Fatima visited Italy, starting from Naples. The same day Padre Pio became very ill with bronchopneumonia and could not celebrate Mass; his illness continued. On August 5 the Statue of Fatima came to the Convent. On August 6 the Statue was leaving in a helicopter. Padre Pio from the hospital cried out, “Madonna, my Mother, I have been sick since you came to Italy, and now you are leaving, leaving me sick.” Padre Pio reported, “I felt a chill in my bones.” Then, “I am feeling well. I am healthy! Our Lady has healed me!” Later he said, “The Madonna came here to heal Padre Pio.” On August 10 Padre Pio resumed celebrating Mass, and on the 21st hearing confessions.
September is the month of Our Lady of Sorrows. Join us in celebrating many special feast days in September: (9/4) Canonization of Mother Teresa of Calcutta (I am thankful to be able to be present @ the Vatican ceremony this date), (9/8) Birth of our Blessed Virgin Mary; (9/23) St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina (present there also on his feast day, then to San Giovanni Rotondo), (9/24) Our Lady of Mercy, (9/27) St. Vincent de Paul, (9/29) Saints Michael, Gabriel & Raphael, Archangels (present @ St. Michael’s Cave on his feast day). Delicious autumn is near. Join us in special prayers of celebration honoring both our new Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta and St. Padre Pio in beautiful September.
