What’s Not to Love about Free?
Free hostas, daylilies, forget-me-nots, coneflowers? Sometimes there are free cacti, canna tubers, ornamental grasses, seeds, and vegetable starts?
Two upcoming events, April 29 and May 6, are opportunities to try new plants, mostly perennials, as well as to discuss your landscaping ideas and challenges with master gardeners.
First up is the Wood County Plant Exchange, the morning of Sat. April 29 in the Wood County Fairgrounds at Haskins and Poe roads on the north side of Bowling Green. Everyone who shows up will be able to select two plants.
But if you’re already a plants person, bring somethings to share from your garden, garden-toolbox, or houseplant collection, and for every item you bring you’ll be able to select an item. Bring 10 plants (labeled and weed-free, please), and you’ll get 10, plus the two for showing up. If you’re bringing a lot, follow the signs to the drop-off area where volunteers will unload your vehicle and sort your donations into appropriate categories that makes “shopping” easy. May 4th, National Day of Prayer
In February the Merge Pastors and Leaders Network gathered together over 60 area pastors and leaders for a two day summit. Out of that meeting the consensus of the group was that God was doing something unique in our region and the unity through prayer played a major role in making that happen.
Thursday, May 4th is the National Day of Prayer. The leadership team of the Merge Network is calling together the Greater Toledo region together in prayer at the Life Revitalization Center from 7pm to 9pm. We need your help getting the word out. Will you help us by inviting the people that you know that need to be at this event. We believe God wants to do big things in our region and prayer is a major key. Continue reading
YOU, WOMEN’S HISTORY, AND THE POWER OF SOCIAL SECURITY
Social Security Column
By Erin Thompson
Social Security Public Affairs Specialist in Toledo, OH
March is Women’s History Month — a time to focus not just on the past, but on the challenges women continue to face. Nearly 60 percent of the people receiving Social Security benefits are women, and in the 21st century, more women work, pay Social Security taxes, and earn credit toward monthly retirement income than at any other time in our nation’s history. Knowing this, you can be the author of your own rich and independent history, with a little preparation. Continue reading
