Lent
This week, we begin the 40-day retreat we call Lent. I describe it this way because, in the early days of the Church, Lent was primarily the season of final preparation for the catechumens preparing to enter the Church at Easter. It is still this for our catechumens here at St. Joe. Please keep these special people in your prayers for these 40 days.
Lent begins early this year. Ash Wednesday can fall anywhere from February 8 to March 8, depending on the day of Easter, which as you all know fall on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the vernal equinox. Continue reading
WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND………..
One day a man saw an old lady, stranded on the side of the road, but even in the dim light of day, he could see she needed help. So he pulled up in front of her Mercedes and got out. His Pinto was still sputtering when he approached her.
Moment Prayers: Week of February 11th – 18th, in the year of our Lord 2018
Sunday 11th: God, guide me. “Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the words of Christ.” Romans 10:17
Monday 12th: Not us but Christ. “For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord.” 2 Corinthians 4:5
Tuesday 13th: Hard pressed. “We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.” 2 Corinthians 4:9
Wednesday 14th: The Spirit works. “Jesus said, ‘This is why i told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled him.” John 6:65 Continue reading
Lenten Devotional Book
Lent is taking on a renewed meaning at Zion Lutheran Church in Ottawa Lake and families around its historical church of 158 years. Through donations from the Women of Zion and community friends Zion has self-published a Lenten Devotional book FREE to the community compiled by Pastor Terry Rebert.
“Lent is a time to go deeper into reflection and meditation concerning what Christ has done for all who follow him,” states Pastor Rebert. “People who follow Christ do amazing things to reflect that love. In my ministry, I have collected some of these stories and put them into a Lenten booklet to give people a vision of what ‘picking up the cross and following Christ means to them.
The 40-page booklet includes devotional messages on topics like one girl who cut her long hair for “Locks of Love.” Another story speaks of Ma Shaw and how she mothered young Gordie Howe when he first came to Detroit. Day 23 reflections on Eric Clapton and how prayer guided him from addiction to recovery.
The Lenten Devotional booklet has 40 Moment Prayers and Bible readings for the days of Lent and a few selective pictures of art to spiritually ponder.
Copies of this booklet are FREE upon request and are available by email at tjrdet@aol.com or calling the church office at 734 856 2931. Zion Lutheran Church is located at 8307 Memorial Hwy and is three miles north of downtown Sylvania, Ohio.
Yours in Christ
Pastor Terry Rebert

Ohio Supreme Court Affirms ODOH Revocation of CCN License
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, February 6, 2018 (Toledo, OH): The Ohio Supreme Court has ruled that because Capital Care Network of Toledo violated a standing rule of 21 years requiring all ambulatory surgical facilities to have written hospital transfer agreements to facilitate emergency treatment, the Ohio Department of Health was within its rights to revoke the clinic’s operating license.
The Court upheld the Department of Health’s position that Capital Care Network’s agreement with the University of Michigan Health Center in Ann Arbor, some 50 miles away, does not satisfy the state’s legal requirement that it have an emergency patient transfer agreement in place with a local hospital.
