Words of Faith

Love your neighbor as yourself.   Luke 10:27
.
Pastor Rebert3 PicOttawa Lake in Whiteford Township is a unique place.  It is a place where a traffic jam is when one is caught behind a tractor hauling hay – where kids and old adults wear Caterpillar ball caps – and where the township supervisor wears bluejeans and suspenders to work.  It is a place where people can still get two hot dogs, fries and a root beer float at the Mayberry Cafe for under 5 bucks.
Ottawa Lake is a place where the whole town shows up when their high school football team goes to the big city to play for the Michigan State Championship and wins or when their school puts on a Christmas concert and actually sings some Christmas carols.   Don’t be surprised to see the gym filled for a basketball game on a Friday night or when a township siren goes off when a person needs a helping hand or where church bells ring when a person passes away.

The Month of Love by Pastor Mark Miller

Pastor Mark (1)If you are married, if you are engaged-eagerly anticipating that wedding day, or are currently dating, if you have any sense (at all) you will be preparing for the day when we are to show special appreciation to those we love – what day is that?  Valentine’s day of course!

Love – the hallmark of a precious relationship, love which is growing deeper and deeper with each passing moment.  This is a wonderful time to reflect upon those with whom we are sharing our lives and to also look for the specialness in them.  Everyone knows how easy it is to take for granted the closest persons in our lives and not see the uniqueness which God has created in them.  How sad for many which do not understand Psalms 139.

Ps 139:14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. Continue reading »

A Rhythm of Prayer: Create a Plan

PastorMattMustericDear Fellow Disciples,

Do you have a set rhythm for daily prayer?

A process for developing a personal prayer rule.  We began with assessing where we currently are in terms of personal prayer practices and then we began to paint a compelling picture of where we would like to be. Then we created an initial plan. This week we will develop a personal prayer rule. Continue reading »

Ohioans Call on ProMedica to temporarily refrain from Transfer Agreement

FoundationLifeToledo Abortion Clinic Owes Department of Health $40,000 Fine from Investigation
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, February 6, 2018 (Toledo, OH):  Today, Ohio Right to Life and the greater Toledo pro-life movement calls upon the leadership of ProMedica to pause before entering into a transfer agreement with Capital Care Network of Toledo. Capital Care Network has been fined by the Ohio Department of Health based on an investigation that revealed a significant departure from typical health and safety standards.
State health inspectors discovered that after one woman had an abortion, the doctor believed that the woman’s bowel might have been perforated. Capital Care Network did not follow their own medical emergencies procedure, which would have been to call 911. Instead, they sent the patient out the back door and into an employee’s personal car.  They dropped her off at the hospital, and then came right back, not ensuring that the woman was treated promptly.
“While Ohio law allows for Hospitals to enter into transfer agreements with these clinics, we are appealing to ProMedica’s reputation and desire to contract with reputable entities,” said Mike Gonidakis, President of Ohio Right to Life. “The ProMedica Board should wait until the legal process with the Ohio Department of Health is finalized.  Otherwise, ProMedica may be contracting with a clinic that continues to violate state law and owes our government a substantial debt.  We can only hope that ProMedica would exercise great discretion prior to partnering with an entity which has current legal problems with state health officials.”
Aside from the health and safety issues, Capital Care Network has employed two doctors within the last four years who have had their medical licenses suspended. Dr. Thomas Michaelis was convicted of possession and distribution of child pornography. He has a history of sexual abuse and lost his medical license in the 90s, but it was reinstated. He worked at Capital Care Network until May 2014. Dr. David Burkons’ medical license was suspended last year because he gave his staff blank prescriptions that he had signed and didn’t report the prescription of controlled substances to six patients.
“Capital Care Network has operated in so many illegal and reprehensible ways,” said Gonidakis. “ProMedica is an upstanding healthcare organization, and it should proceed with caution before partnering with an abortion facility of such ill repute.” Ohio Right to Life calls upon its statewide membership to contact ProMedica with their concerns.
