Ordination of Daniel Neighbors

Emmanuel Baptist Church, Toledo, OH

Daniel Neighbors was ordained for ministry at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Toledo, OH, after being examined by a council of pastors who met with him on January 26, 2023.  Dan chose a different pathway to this ministry milestone because he has already been serving as a pastor for fifteen years.  Marriage, ministry, and raising a family caused one year to roll into another: life got busy.  Dan graduated from the former Northland Baptist Bible College with a B.A. in Church Ministries and obtained a Master’s in Biblical Studies two years later.  Next, he spent four years as a youth pastor at Unity Baptist Church in Champagne, IL.  In August 2013 he accepted a youth ministry position at Emmanuel in Toledo because he appreciated the preaching and teaching emphasis of Pastor Duke Crawford.  Six years later he moved into his current role as Pastor of Families, Discipleship, and Communication.  His responsibilities include Sunday School, Wednesday night ministries, all church communication, and oversight of worship technology.  Pastor Dan Neighbors and his wife, Laura, have three children.

January 15 Worship:    Second Sunday after Epiphany

 Scriptures:  Isaiah 49:1-7; Psalm 40:1-11; 1 Corinthians 1:1-9; John 1:29-42

Sermon:     “Pursuing the Prophetic”  John the Baptist’s story winds throughout the    gospels, connected to Jesus almost from conception. John      precedes him, identifies him, baptizes him, defers to him, and in death is affirmed by him as “the greatest of the prophets.”  Yet John was a prophet in his own right, dying the martyr’s death   because he would not be silent about the sins of the rich and  famous.  How do we identify the prophets of our day – and    embrace the prophetic wisdom that God has given us.

January 22 Worship:    Third Sunday After Epiphany Scriptures:  Isaiah 9:1-4; Psalm 27:1,4-9; 1 Corinthians 1:10-18; Matthew 4:12-23

Sermon:     “Community”. Every day, we find ourselves actively engaged in crowds. There are all kinds of crowds. There’ s the work crowd, the school crowd, the crowd associated with the activities of our children and there is the church crowd.  What draws us together at church and makes relationships more meaningful?  What is the meaning and purpose of our time together in worship?

December 18: Advent Four – Sacred Knowing (Peace)
“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Look, the young woman is with
child and shall bear a son, and shall name him Immanuel.” – Isaiah 7: 10-16
“Now the birth of Jesus the Messiah took place in this way. When his mother Mary
had been engaged to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found to be with
child from the Holy Spirit. Her husband Joseph, being a righteous man and
unwilling to expose her to public disgrace, planned to dismiss her quietly. But just
when he had resolved to do this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream
and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the
child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.” – Matthew 1: 18-25
Many of us look for signs to help us know what to do, or we wish we
could have our own personal angel visit us to let us know the “right”
next steps. Uncertainty is a fact of life–this seems ever more true. This
week we will remember that there is a Christ within us constantly
birthing wisdom and a deep knowing if we will but listen with a
contemplative heart. Let us seek out quiet in order to hear the voice that
brings peace by gently saying, “do not be afraid.”

November 13 Worship: Stewardship Sunday

Scripture:  Malachi 4:1-2a; Psalm 98; 2 Thessalonians 3:6-13; Luke 21:5-19

Sermon:  “Thanks and Giving”. We all love Thanksgiving.  And we are called to Give Thanks.  But let’s take time to look at the connection between   acknowledging that the Lord has given all things to us, so we are to be thankful – but then are called to give generously of our time, talents and treasure.  What is the Thanks and Giving connection?

November 20 Worship: Youth Sunday/Thanksgiving Sunday

Scripture:  Jeremiah 23:1-6; Psalm 46; Colossians 1:11-20;  Luke 23:33-43

Being grateful and thankful are not just things we are called to do one day a year.  We are called to live a life of gratitude and service, being thankful for the love of God through Jesus in all things!  Our Acts 29 youth have created this worship service, and will lead and teach us to live out of a spirit of a spirit of abundance.

And so some Intel work for yourself in the meantime. Write Dec 3rd on your calendar for our discovery event about Kairos at Toledo Correctional state prison. It is two hours on Saturday morning (10-12) on Dec 3rd … at Soma City church at Franklin Park Mall 2nd floor across from Rave movie theater.
