The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army will be accepting applications for those families who
have not been able to find assistance for the Holidays; and for those
families who have already been prescreened and missed our distribution.
Families will be able to receive toys on: Thursday, December 22nd.,
between 9-11am & 1-3pm

Please note: If a family has not been prescreened they must bring in the
following documentation in order to fill out an application.
Picture ID for all the Adults in the household
Birth certificates for all children in the household
Proof of address dated within the last 30 days (ie… utility bill, mail
that has been post marked)
Proof of Income for the last 30 days. (Dated)

Please note: If the family has already been prescreened then all they need
to bring in with them is:
Picture ID
Approval card they received during their interview with The Salvation
Army.

Upward Basketball is coming to Sylvania

Upward Basketball is coming to Sylvania area churches with practices beginning January 16. Upward Sports is the world’s largest Christian sports league for children and provides the BEST sports experience for every child. Upward Sports teaches sport fundamentals in an environment of healthy competition, helping kids to develop skills for the sports arena and values for life. Trinity Church of the Nazarene offers basketball for kids kindergarden through 6th grade With weekly practices and games limited to one-hour each, this league is family-friendly and fun for everyone! The ordination of Reverend Ruby Radford will be 4 p.m., Sunday, October 16, 2011 at the Historic Third Baptist Church, 402 Pinewood at Division Street.

She has an Associate of Arts degree in Business Communications from Cuyahoga Community College, Cleveland, OH; Human Relations, BS; Educational Technology and Human Resources Training and Development, M.E., University of Toledo; and Winebrenner Theological Seminary, Master of Family Ministry.

In 2003, a certificate of recognition for Community Service and Contributions in the area of Poetry and Women’s History from the National Association of Negro Business & Professional Women’s Clubs, Inc., Toledo Club.  She has spent many hours designing and facilitating workshops on various topics for the Toledo Diocese, Suitably Attired, Battered Women’s Shelter, various churches, sororities and schools. She is truly gifted. She is an author and has published two books of poetry: “I Just Want to Help, and “When the Light Shines Through,” a CD, “Don’t Just Exist, Live.” and two books for professionals: “Teaching…But Nobody is Learning: Create a Teachable Moment” & “Remember Me…I Am the Customer.” In 2008, she designed and taught a 6 week course, “Introduction to Theology,” to the church community.

The ordination is free and open to the public.
